Louis and Scholar Nwoke Foundation Scholarship Recipients
Melissa Elegado: 3.4 GPA, Graduating in December 2025
Melissa is pursuing a career in nursing to help people in need. She has three children and has had many experiences with hospital visits and staff who were always helpful and caring. She would like to give the experience back for anyone who is in need. She plans to keeping working part-time to support her nursing career goals. Eventually she would like to expand on her knowledge and become a CRNA and work her way to up a Nurse Practitioner. She wants to show her children that if you work hard, you can achieve anything.
Kellie Lucero: 3.8 GPA, Graduating in June 2026
Kellie has always wanted to work in medicine. She has a BA in Global Health but found it was difficult to find a job in this field without a RN license. She obtained an EMT license and after working in that field, found she loves emergency medicine and became and ER Technician. Now she is returning to school to become an emergency room nurse. Kellie is excited about the idea of becoming an ER nurse and plans on taking advantage of a concurrent program to eventually obtain her MSN.
Michael Lupangosy: 3.8 GPA, Graduating in June 2025
Michael is an immigrant from the Philippines and understands the value of education and how it can lead a path to success. People in his country were not always given the opportunity to receive a high school or college education due to financial difficulties and other life struggles, and he feels blessed that he has been given the opportunity to pursue his dream of becoming a nurse. Michael believes that a college education is a bridge to numerous opportunities and life and will help his with his long-range career goal to become a Nurse Practitioner.
Ming Nguyen: 4.0 GPA, Graduating June 2026
As a person who already has a Bachelor’s degree in Vietnam and two Associate’s degrees from El Camino College, Ming understands the important of a college education that provides a strong foundation for both immediate and long-term career goals. Being in the nursing program provides her with opportunities to connect with professionals, professors and peers, creating a network that can lead to opportunities for her nursing career. Ming’s educational goals are to pass the NCLEX exam, obtain her RN degree and go on to receive her BSN.
Monica Recinos: 3.2 GPA, Graduating in December 2025
Monica has been an LVN for 17 years and as much as she loves being a vocational nurse, she wants to pursue her dream of becoming a NICU nurse. Monica was thrilled when she was selected for the nursing program, which will give her essential knowledge and skills as a nurse. This scholarship will help pay for fees and supplies in her pursuit of her RN license. Monica wants to make a difference in people’s lives and show her children that it is never too late to pursue a dream.
